Spinning Stories: Inside Our Annual Vinyl Listening Party”
Last weekend, we cleared a bit of space, dusted off the turntable, and let the music take over for a vinyl listening party at JD Falvey’s, one of our favourite nights of the year.
The tradition started in 2025 when we decided to mark “World Record Store Day” with a vinyl listening party. gathering together people who appreciate good music. There’s something about vinyl that changes the whole mood, from the soft crackle before the first track kicks in, or the fact that you actually have to commit to an album instead of skipping around. Whatever it is, it slows things down in the best possible way. And that’s exactly what the night felt like—unhurried, warm, and properly social.
These nights are a throw back to an age where we used to visit a friends house, who just bought the new “big” album that week, and everyone would gather around to listen. Its something so simple, and timeless, it just works.
We had a mix of records spinning throughout the evening. A bit of classic rock, some soul, a splash of indie—nothing too curated, just people bringing along what they love and sharing it. That was probably the highlight: watching someone light up as their pick dropped and seeing others connect with it, sometimes for the first time.
Of course, there were a few debates (as there always are). From the what is the best album side of all time, which track is the best track off a great album, nothing heated—just the kind of back-and-forth that makes nights like this feel alive.
By the end of it, we’d gone through a stack of records and lost track of time completely. The kind of night where you look up and realize hours have passed without noticing.
We’re already thinking about doing it again. possibly this winter but come hell or high water we will be in the back room of Falvey’s on world record store day in 2027. If you’ve got a favorite record sitting at home, it might be time to bring it out and give it a proper spin with good company.
A big thank you to Dave Ryan Media for the great photos of the night!
